(“grey; ashen; dusky”), from Old English hasu (“dusky; grey; ashen”), from Proto-Germanic *haswaz (“grey”), from Proto-Indo-European *?eh?s- (“bright grey”), surface analysis as haze +? -y; although Modern English haze is more likely a back-formation of hazy.
