Borrowed from Medieval Latin olibanum, Late Latin libanus, from Latin oleum libani (“oil of Lebanon”), from Ancient Greek ??????? (líbanos, “frankincense (Boswellia carterii, now Boswellia sacra)”), from a Semitic source. See the Semitic root lbn ????, meaning "white". See also (Biblical Hebrew ?????????
