- (mineralogy) a gray-white mineral inosilicate hydroxide of calcium and sodium that crystallizes in the triclinic system, with the chemical formula NaCa2Si3O8(OH).

Etymology
Combination of Larissa and Spanish mar (“sea”). Coined by Miguel Méndez after his 1974 rediscovery of the stone in the Dominican Republic. Named for his daughter Larissa and the Caribbean sea, which has a similar blue color.
