(biblía, “books”), plural of ??????? (biblíon, “small book”), originally a diminutive of ?????? (bíblos, “book”), from ?????? (búblos, “papyrus”) (from the ancient Phoenician city of Byblos which exported this writing material).
Old English used biblioþ?ce (from ??????????) and ?ewritu (> English writs) for "the Scriptures".
