(pipe), from Proto-Indo-European *d?el- (curvature, hollow). Cognate with French douelle, douille. Alternatively from Middle Low German dövel (peg, plug), from Proto-Germanic *dubilaz. Cognate with Dutch deuvel (wooden peg), German Dübel (dowel).
