Nancy Thompson Quotes:

  • Kristen Parker: Five, six, grab a crucifix. Seven, eight, better stay up late. Nine, ten, never... never...

Nancy Thompson: Never sleep again. Where did you learn that rhyme?

  • Nancy Thompson: I used to live in this house.

Kristen Parker: That's just a house I dream about.

  • Kristen Parker: The man in my dreams... he's real, isn't he?

    Nancy Thompson: He's real.

  • Phillip Anderson: Can I interject something just to save us all some time?

Dr. Neil Gordon: Sure, Phillip. Go ahead.

Phillip Anderson: Well, according to our kind hosts, our dreams are a group psychosis. Sort of a mellow mass hysteria. The fact that we all dreamt about this guy before we ever met doesn't impress anybody. So we go in circles making minimal progress with maximum effort.

Dr. Elizabeth Simms: You won't make any progress until you recognize your dreams for what they are.

Nancy Thompson: And what are they?

Dr. Elizabeth Simms: The by-products of guilt. Psychological scars stemming from moral conflicts and overt sexuality.

Roland Kincaid: Oh, great. Now it's my dick that's killing me.

  • [Freddy lifts Kincaid by the throat]

Nancy Thompson: He's strong. He's never been this strong.

Freddy Krueger: Yes. The souls of the children...

[rips open his sweater revealing faces of children on his chest]

    Freddy Krueger: ...give me strength.

    Nancy Thompson: Oh, God.

Freddy Krueger: Always room for more.

  • Freddy Krueger: Joey... look. All the little PIGGIES come home.

Nancy Thompson: Let him go, Krueger.

Freddy Krueger: Your wish... is my command.

  • Taryn White: Who is he?

Nancy Thompson: His name is Freddy Krueger. He was a child murderer before he died, and after he died... well, he became something worse.

  • Kristen Parker: Well just go ahead and fight. 'Cause that what he wants.

    Will Stanton: Who?

Jennifer Caulfield: Who do you think? What does he want?

Kristen Parker: To turn us against each other other so we'll be be weak. Easy pray.

    Roland Kincaid: Horseshit.

    Nancy Thompson: No, she's right.

  • Dr. Neil Gordon: What was that nursery rhyme all about?

Nancy Thompson: It was just something that that the kids say to keep the... Boogieman away.

  • Thompson: Fred Kreuger is dead. You've always had such a hard time understanding that.

Nancy Thompson: You know what he did. He's doing it again.

Dr. Neil Gordon: She's telling the truth, sir.

Thompson: I don't think we've ever met, friend. This doesn't concern you.

Nancy Thompson: I think we can stop him. Stop him for good this time, but we need to know where his bones were hidden.

Thompson: It was good seeing you again, princess. Next time, don't stay away so long.

  • Roland Kincaid: Yo, Freddy! Where you hiding at, you burnt-faced pussy?

Nancy Thompson: Hey! We should, find the others first.

Roland Kincaid: You think you're hot shit with the little mute kid, don't ya? Well let me see you come get a piece of me! Krueger! Pussy! Yeah, I knew he was a little chicken.

    [Door appears behind them]

    Roland Kincaid: Shit.

    Nancy Thompson: It's a door.

Roland Kincaid: But, it doesn't go anywhere.

    Kristen Parker: Yes, it does.

Nancy Thompson: This is it. Are you ready?

Roland Kincaid: Let's snuff, the sucka!

  • Nancy Thompson: It's now or never. I'm not gonna kid you, this is as dangerous as it gets. If you die in this dream it's for real. Nobody has to go in that doesn't want to.

  • Sister Mary Helena/Amanda Krueger: [talking to Neil] Only one thing can save the children now. The unquiet spirit must be laid to rest...

Nancy Thompson: [walking up to Neil] Neil? What are you doing up here?

Dr. Neil Gordon: Oh, I was just talking to...

[turns around and Mary Helena is gone]

    Nancy Thompson: To who?

  • Nancy Thompson: Daddy?

    Thompson: I've crossed over, princess.

    Nancy Thompson: Crossed over?

Thompson: I couldn't go without telling you how sorry I am for all the things I've done. I love you so much. I'll always love you.

Nancy Thompson: [hugs him] I'll always love you.

[Thompson turns into Freddy and stabs Nancy in her stomach]

    Freddy Krueger: DIE.

  • Dr. Neil Gordon: 43:52 Nancy has something to say.

Nancy Thompson: I know who's trying to kill you.

Roland Kincaid: Don't humor us. We're not in the mood.

Nancy Thompson: He wears a dirty brown hat. He's horribly burned. He has razors on his right hand.

    Taryn: Who is he?

Nancy Thompson: His name is Freddy Krueger. He was a child murderer before he died, and after he died he became something worse. Six years ago, he killed my friends. He almost killed me.

Will Stanton: Why is he after us?

Taryn: Yeah, what did we do?

Nancy Thompson: It's not you. Your parents, my parents, they burned him alive. And now we're paying for their sins. You are the last of the Elm Street children.

  • Nancy Thompson: [to Glen] Whatever you do... don't fall asleep.

  • Nancy Thompson: Mother! What's with the bars?

    Marge Thompson: Security.

Nancy Thompson: Security? Security from what?

Marge Thompson: Not from what - from whom. Come down to the cellar. You wanna know who Fred Krueger was? He was a filthy child murderer who killed at least 20 kids in the neighborhood... kids we all knew.

    Nancy Thompson: Oh, Mom.

Marge Thompson: It drove us crazy when we didn't know who it was, but it was even worse after they caught him.

Nancy Thompson: Did they put him away?

Marge Thompson: Well, all the lawyers got fat and the judge got famous, but someone forgot to sign the search warrant in the right place and Krueger was free just like that.

Nancy Thompson: What did you do?

Marge Thompson: A bunch of us parents got together and tracked him down. We found him in old abandoned boiler room, where he used to take his kids.

    Nancy Thompson: Go on.

Marge Thompson: We took gasoline and poured it all around the place and made a trail of it out the door. We lit the whole thing up and watched it burn. He's dead now. He's dead because Mommy killed him. I even took his knives.

  • Nancy Thompson: It's only a dream!

    Fred Krueger: Come to Freddy.

    Nancy Thompson: Goddamn you!

  • Marge Thompson: Nancy?

    Nancy Thompson: What, Mother?

Marge Thompson: Don't fall asleep in there. You could drown, you know.

Nancy Thompson: Oh, for Pete's sakes.

Marge Thompson: It happens all the time. I've heated up some warm milk for you, honey.

    Nancy Thompson: Warm milk? Gross.

  • Nancy Thompson: Help! I've got him! Hey, Daddy! I've got him trapped! Help! Where are you?

Sgt. Parker: Everything's gonna be all right! Everything's under control!

Nancy Thompson: Get my dad, you asshole!

  • Nancy Thompson: Oh, God. I look 20 years old!

  • Hall Guard: Where's your pass?

    Nancy Thompson: Screw your pass.

  • Nancy Thompson: [after Glen failed to wake her up as she fell asleep and dreamed about Freddy] Glen, you bastard!

Glen Lantz: What did I do?

Nancy Thompson: I just asked you to do one thing, to stay awake and watch me and to wake me up if it looked like I was having a bad dream, and what did you do, you shit?

[Nancy slaps him on the knee]

    Nancy Thompson: You fell asleep!

  • Nancy Thompson: Come on, Freddy. Can't you catch me?

Fred Krueger: I'm going to split you in two.

  • Nancy Thompson: I grab the guy in my dream. You see me struggling so you wake me up. We both come out, you whack the fucker and we got him.

Glen Lantz: Are you crazy? Hit him with what?

Nancy Thompson: You're the jock. You have a baseball bat or something.

  • Nancy Thompson: I know you're there Freddy.

Fred Krueger: You think you was gonna get away from me?

Nancy Thompson: I know you too well, Freddy.

    Fred Krueger: Now you die.

Nancy Thompson: It's too late, Krueger. I know the secret now. This is just a dream. You're not alive. This whole thing is just a dream.

[she turns around and faces him]

Nancy Thompson: I want my mother and friends again.

    Fred Krueger: You what?

Nancy Thompson: I take back every bit of energy I gave you. You're nothing. You're shit.

  • Nancy Thompson: I'm into survival.

  • Rod Lane: [after tackling Glen on the lawn] It's Rod Lane, bringing Lantz down, just three yards from the goal line! What a brilliant tackle and the crowd goes wild!

Tina Gray: What the hell are you doing here?

Rod Lane: Came to make up. No big deal. Your mom home?

    Tina Gray: Of course.

[looking at the tool Rod used to make the screeching noise]

    Tina Gray: Oh, what's that?

    Rod Lane: Intense, huh?

[slowly reveals it and imitates a screeching noise]

Rod Lane: So what's going on here? An orgy or somethin'?

Glen Lantz: Maybe your funeral, dickhead.

[Rod pulls out a switchblade and holds it up to Glen's face]

Nancy Thompson: [putting Rod's flashing switchblade back in and giving it to him] It's just a sleepover, Rod. Tina and me. Glen was just leaving.

Rod Lane: [to Tina, smirking] Did you see his face?

Glen Lantz: [mimicking Rod] "Did you see his face?"

  • Nancy Thompson: [she notices Glen standing outside her window with mud-caked soles] Sometimes I wish you didn't live right across the street.

Glen Lantz: [holds one of his muddy feet up to her] Will you shut up and let me in? Did you ever stand on a rose trellis in your bare feet?

  • Nancy Thompson: [referring to the Balinese way of dreaming] But what if they meet a monster in their dreams? Then what?

Glen Lantz: They turn their back on it. Take away its energy and it disappears.

Nancy Thompson: But what happens if they don't do that?

Glen Lantz: Well, I guess those people don't wake up to tell what happens.

  • Nancy Thompson: [looking in the mirror] This is just a dream, this isn't real. This is just a dream, he isn't real. He isn't...

[Freddy smashes through the mirror and grabs her]

  • Glen Lantz: You believe this fog?

Nancy Thompson: Oh, I believe anything is possible.

  • Nancy Thompson: [on the phone, referring to Glen] Hi, Daddy. I know what happened.

Lt. Thompson: I haven't been upstairs yet.

Nancy Thompson: Yeah, but you know he's dead, right?

Lt. Thompson: Yeah, apparently he's dead.

Nancy Thompson: Listen, Daddy, I've got a proposition for you. Listen very carefully, please.

    Lt. Thompson: Nancy.

Nancy Thompson: I'm going to go and get the guy who did it, and I want you to be there to arrest him when I bring him out. Okay?

Lt. Thompson: Just tell me who did it. I'll go get him, baby.

Nancy Thompson: Fred Krueger did it, Daddy, and only I can get him. It's my nightmare he comes to.

  • Tina Gray: All day long I've been seeing that guy's weird face and hearing those fingernails.

Nancy Thompson: Fingernails? That's amazing you saying that. That made me remember the dream I had last night.

    Tina Gray: What'd you dream?

Nancy Thompson: I dreamed about a guy in a dirty red and green sweater.

    [Glen looks up, curious]

Tina Gray: Well, what about the fingernails?

Nancy Thompson: Well, he scraped his fingernails along things. Actually, they were more like finger-knives or something; something he'd made himself. They made a horrible sound...

    [imitating nails on a chalkboard]

    Nancy Thompson: Screeech.

  • Nancy Thompson: [at the police station] You know Tina, she dreamed this was gonna happen.

    Lt. Thompson: What?

Nancy Thompson: She had a nightmare that someone was trying to kill her.

    [to her mother, sobbing]

Nancy Thompson: That's why we were there, Mom. She just didn't wanna sleep alone.

  • Nancy Thompson: [screaming in the boiler room] Come out and show yourself, you bastard!

[she fixes her watch; Krueger comes from behind]

Nancy Thompson: [screams and jumps from the boiler room, landing in front of her house on a rose bush] Dammit! Where are you? Where are you, Krueger?

    [laughs uncomfortably]

Nancy Thompson: I know you're here!

    Fred Krueger: [whispering] Hey, Nancy.

[pops out from under the rose bush]

Nancy Thompson: [jumps towards him and grabs him] I've got you now!

[wrestles with him as her alarm wakes her up]

Nancy Thompson: [screams and realizes she's alone in the room] Oh... I'm crazy after all!

[Freddy pops out from the other side of her bed]

  • Nancy Thompson: [at the sleep clinic] I don't see why you can't just give me a pill to keep me from dreaming.

Dr. King: Everybody's got to dream, young girl. If you don't dream...

    [pointing to his head]

    Dr. King: You go.

  • Nancy Thompson: [after seeing that the house is now fully secured] Mother! What's with the bars?

    Marge Thompson: Security.

Nancy Thompson: Security? Security from what?

Marge Thompson: Not from what, from whom.

  • Nancy Thompson: [before going to sleep to find Freddy] Okay, Krueger. We play in your court.

  • Nancy Thompson: Maybe I should just pick up that bottle and veg out with you, ignore everything going on around me by getting good and loaded.

    [Marge slaps her]

  • Glen Lantz: We have reason to believe there may be something very strange going on.

Lt. Thompson: You got that right.

Nancy Thompson: What are you doing here?

Lt. Thompson: There's an unsolved murder and I hate unsolved murders, especially ones that my daughter is mixed up in. What are *you* doing here?

Nancy Thompson: Look, I just gotta see that he's okay.

Sgt. Garcia: I just checked on him ten minutes ago, he's sleeping like a baby. He's not going anywhere.

  • Glen Lantz: What did you do to your arm?

Nancy Thompson: I burned it in English class.

  • Nancy Thompson: And now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the lord my soul to keep. And if I die before I wake, I pray the lord my soul to take.

  • Nancy Thompson: Okay, here's what we're going to do.

Glen Lantz: It's dark in here.

Nancy Thompson: But it's not what you're thinking.

  • Nancy Thompson: What I learned in the dream clinic. That's what I'm trying to prove, Mother. Rod didn't kill Tina and he didn't hang himself. There's this guy; he's after us in our dreams.

Marge Thompson: But that's just not reality, Nancy.

Nancy Thompson: [pulling Krueger's hat out of a drawer] It's real, Momma. Feel it.

Marge Thompson: Give me that damn thing!

Nancy Thompson: It even has his name written in it. Fred Krueger, Mom. Fred Krueger.

[realizing her mother knows about him]

Nancy Thompson: Do you know who that is, Mother? Because if you do you better tell me 'cause he's after me now.

  • Marge Thompson: You want to know who Fred Krueger was? He was a filthy child murderer who killed at least 20 kids in the neighborhood. Kids we all knew.

Nancy Thompson: [taken aback] Oh, mom.

Marge Thompson: It drove us crazy when we didn't know who it was, but it was even worse after they caught him.

Nancy Thompson: Did they put him away?

Marge Thompson: Well, the lawyers got fat and the judge got famous, but somebody forgot to sign the search warrant in the right place and Krueger was free, just like that.

Nancy Thompson: What did you do, mother?

  • Nancy Thompson: The killer's still loose, you know.

Lt. Thompson: You're saying somebody else killed Tina? Who?

Nancy Thompson: I don't know who he is, but he's burned and he wears a weird hat and a red and green sweater, really dirty. And he uses these knives, like giant fingernails...

Lt. Thompson: [cuts her off and guides her into the car, to Marge] You better keep her home for a few days, until she really gets over the shock of this.

Marge Thompson: I've got something better. I'm going to get her some help.

  • Nancy Thompson: Glenn? Where are you? Are you there?

    Fred Krueger: [whispers] I'm here.

[jumps out from behind a bush. Nancy screams and takes off running]
