President Snow: I must concede, it was a masterful move on Coin's part. The idea that I was bombing our own helpless children to hold back the rebels. It turned the last of my guards against me. There was no resistance left inside the Capitol or the mansion. Do you know it aired live? There's a particular savvy in that, isn't there? I'm sure she wasn't gunning for your sister, but... these things happen in war. My failure was in being so slow to grasp Coin's plan. She let the Capitol and the Districts destroy one another, then she stepped in to take power with 13's arsenal. Oh, make no mistake, she intends to take my place now. But... I've been watching you. And you watching me. I'm afraid we've both been played for fools.

Katniss Everdeen: I don't believe you.

President Snow: Oh, my dear Miss Everdeen. I thought we'd agreed never to lie to each other.

Katniss Everdeen: You should have been the Mockingjay. Nobody else would tell you what to say.

Johanna Mason: But nobody likes me.

Katniss Everdeen: They're afraid of you.

Gale Hawthorne: What's goin' on in your head?

Katniss Everdeen: [as President Snow promises to take care of the refugees until his dying day] I wish he'd hurry up with that last part.

[Pulls off the necklace from around his neck]

I did know Rue. She wasn't just my ally, she was my friend. I see her in the flowers that grow in the meadow by my house. I hear her in the Mockingjay song. I see her in my sister Prim. She was too young, too gentle, and I couldn't save her. I'm sorry.

Peeta Mellark: See, Katniss, the way the whole "friend" thing works is you have to tell each other the deep stuff.

Katniss Everdeen: The deep stuff?

Peeta Mellark: Yeah.

Katniss Everdeen: Uh-oh. Like what?

[looking at the District 2 Female Tribute, Enobaria]

Katniss Everdeen: What's with her teeth?

Haymitch Abernathy: She had them filed into fangs so she could rip people's throats out.

Peeta Mellark: She's committed, I'll give her that.

Katniss Everdeen: Any last advice?

Haymitch Abernathy: Stay alive.

Katniss Everdeen: You were dead. Your heart stopped.

Peeta Mellark: It's okay. It's working now.

Finnick Odair: Katniss.

Katniss Everdeen: Hello, Finnick.

Finnick Odair: Do you want a sugar cube? I mean it's supposed to be for the horses, but... I mean who cares about them, right? They got years to eat sugar, whereas you and I... well, if we see something sweet we better grab it.

Katniss Everdeen: [hearing the door open] I'm really not in the mood for a lecture. I'll apologize to Effie later.

[She turns and sees it's Peeta who's entered the room]

Katniss Everdeen: I thought you were Haymitch.

Peeta Mellark: You don't have to apologize to anybody, including me. I know it's not fair of me to hold you to things that you said in the games - you saved us, I know that - but I can't go on acting for the cameras and then just ignoring each other in real life; so, if you can stop looking at me like I'm wounded, then I can quit acting like it, and then MAYBE we have a shot at being friends.

Katniss Everdeen: I've never been very good at friends.

Peeta Mellark: For starters, it does help when you know the person. I hardly know anything about you except that you're stubborn and good with a bow.

Katniss Everdeen: That about sums me up.

Peeta Mellark: No, there's more than that. You just don't want to tell me.

Katniss Everdeen: Nobody decent ever wins the games.

Haymitch Abernathy: Nobody ever wins the games. Period. There are survivors. There's no winners.

Johanna Mason: Really? A wedding dress?

Katniss Everdeen: How rude of them.

Effie Trinket: We're a team, aren't we? And I'm so proud of my victors. So proud. You're so... Well, you both deserved so much better.

Katniss Everdeen: Thank you, Effie.

Effie Trinket: I am truly sorry.

Katniss Everdeen: Haymitch, please. Please, just help me get through this trip.

Haymitch Abernathy: This trip doesn't end when you get back home.

Peeta Mellark: So what do we do?

Haymitch Abernathy: From now on, your job is to be a distraction so people forget what the real problems are.

Haymitch Abernathy: Good news. At least half the tributes want you as an ally.

Haymitch Abernathy: Yes. He won the games at 14. Youngest ever. Extremely humble.

Katniss Everdeen: You're kidding.

Haymitch Abernathy: Yes, I'm kidding. He's a peacock, a total preener but he's the Capitol darling. They love him here. Charming, smart and very skilled at combat - especially in water.

Peeta Mellark: The Careers are still out there. If we stick with these guys till midnight and... and if we hear a cannon, we go.

President Snow: You fought very hard in the Games, Miss Everdeen. But they were games. Would you like to be in a real war? Imagine thousands of your people, dead. Your loved ones, gone.

Katniss Everdeen: What do I need to do?

[to the peacekeeper]

Katniss Everdeen: I get to say goodbye!

Gale Hawthorne: She's alive. So's your mother. I got them out in time.

Gale Hawthorne: After the Games, they sent in hover-crafts... and they started dropping fire-bombs.

Katniss Everdeen: They're not in 12?

Gale Hawthorne: There is no District 12. It's all gone.

President Alma Coin: Do you have any other conditions?

Katniss Everdeen: My sister gets to keep her cat.

Katniss Everdeen: I have a message for President Snow. You can torture us and bomb us and burn our districts to the ground. But do you see that? Fire is catching... And if we burn... you burn with us!

Katniss Everdeen: [speaking softly] Start simple. Start with that you know is true. My name is Katniss Everdeen. My home is District 12. I was in the Hunger Games. I escaped. Peeta... Peeta was left behind.

Katniss Everdeen: [filming a "propo," stilted, wooden delivery] People of Panem, we fight! We dare to end this hunger for justice.

Haymitch Abernathy: [entering the room, slow clap] And that, my friends, is how a revolution dies. Hello, Katniss. This how you greet an old friend?

Katniss Everdeen: Maybe I don't recognize you sober.

Haymitch Abernathy: I guess it looks as bad as it feels.

Katniss Everdeen: I've decided I will be your Mockingjay, but I have... some conditions. Peeta and the other tributes, Johanna Mason and Annie Cresta, will be rescued at the earliest opportunity. If and when Peeta is liberated, he will receive a full and unconditional pardon, no punishment will be inflicted. And the same goes for the other tributes.

President Alma Coin: [nods, considers the demand, but:] No.

Katniss Everdeen: It's not their fault. You be them in the arena. They're doing and saying whatever they can to survive.

President Alma Coin: Individuals don't make demands in 13. There will be a tribunal, and a fair judgment.

[coldly:]

President Alma Coin: Thank you.

Katniss Everdeen: [adamant] The victors will be granted immunity, and you will announce that in front of the entire population of 13. You will hold yourself and your government responsible, or you will find another Mockingjay.

Plutarch Heavensbee: [pleased] That's it! That's her! Right there! Isn't that what I promised you? Now if she wears the costume, gunfire in the background, a hint of smoke... Our Mockingjay. Madam President, we're losing ground because people are losing heart, this is worth the risk, she's worth the risk. Pardons, tribunals, power to the people, that can all be the bedrock for the new Panem, but with more time I think even the normal sub-causes can be bent a little bit, right?

President Alma Coin: [swayed] Do you have any other conditions?

Katniss Everdeen: [consults her note] My sister gets to keep her cat.

Gale Hawthorne: [standing next to table] This is where you kissed me.

Katniss Everdeen: I didn't think you remembered that.

[slowly coming to him]

Gale Hawthorne: I would have to be dead to forget that... Maybe not even then.

[she leans in and they share a tender passionate kiss]
