Elizabeth Swann Quotes:

  • Elizabeth Swann: You will listen to me! LISTEN! The other ships will still be looking to us, to the Black Pearl, to lead, and what will they see? Frightened bilgerats aboard a derelict ship? No, no they will see free men and freedom! And what the enemy will see, they will see the flash of our cannons, and they will hear the ringing of our swords, and they will know what we can do! By the sweat of our brow and the strength of our backs and the courage in our hearts! Gentlemen, hoist the colors!

  • Will Turner: [during the final battle] Will you marry me?

Elizabeth Swann: I don't think now's the best time!

Will Turner: Now may be the only time! I love you. I've made my choice. What's yours?

    Elizabeth Swann: Barbossa! Marry us!

Barbossa: [swordfighting] I'm a little busy at the moment!

  • Gibbs: Jack! The world needs you back something fierce!

Will Turner: Cutler Beckett has the heart of Davy Jones, he controls the Flying Dutchman.

Elizabeth Swann: He's taking over the sea!

Tia Dalma: The song has already been sung! The brethren court is called!

Jack Sparrow: I leave you people alone for just a minute and look what happens, everything's gone to pot!

  • Will Turner: [during the final battle] Elizabeth Swann, do you take me to be your husband?

    Elizabeth Swann: I do.

    Will Turner: Great!

    [more fighting]

Elizabeth Swann: Will Turner, do you take me to be your wife, in sickness and in health, with health being less likely?

    Will Turner: I do.

    [more fighting]

Barbossa: As Captain, I now pronounce you...

    [interrupted by fighting]

    Barbossa: You may kiss...

    [more fighting]

    Barbossa: ...You may kiss...

    [more fighting]

    Barbossa: ...JUST KISS!

  • Captain Jocard: Who is this traitor?

Barbossa: Not likely one among us.

    Elizabeth Swann: Where's Will?

    Jack Sparrow: Not among us.

  • Captain Chevalle: There has not been a king since the first brethren court, and that is not likely to change!

    Captain Teague: Not likely.

    Elizabeth Swann: Why not?

Gibbs: Because the pirate king is elected by popular vote...

Barbossa: ...and each pirate only votes for himself

Jack Sparrow: I call for a vote.

[Barbossa rolls his eyes as Captain Teague starts playing the guitar]

Captain Ammand: I vote for Ammand, the Corsair!

Captain Chevalle: Captain Chevalle, the penniless Frenchman!

    Mistress Ching: Mistress Ching!

    Captain Jocard: Gentleman Jocard.

    Elizabeth Swann: Elizabeth Swann.

    Barbossa: Barbossa.

    Captain Vallenueva: Villanueva!

[Captain Teague stops playing his guitar]

    Jack Sparrow: Elizabeth Swann.

    [the court begins to yell]

    Elizabeth Swann: What?

Jack Sparrow: I know. Curious, isn't it?

  • Gibbs: Your carriage waits, my lady! The oars are inside.

[Elizabeth bids her pirate friends farewell]

    Ragetti: 'Bye, poppet.

    Barbossa: MRS. Turner...

Elizabeth Swann: Jack... it would never have worked between us.

Jack Sparrow: Keep telling yourself that, darling.

[Elizabeth steps forward to kiss Jack]

Jack Sparrow: Once was quite enough!

    Elizabeth Swann: Thank you.

  • Davy Jones: [upon seeing Elizabeth on the ship] Harridan! You'll see no mercy from me!

Elizabeth Swann: That's why I brought this.

    [drawing her sword to fight]

Davy Jones: [Will stabs Davy Jones with a sword from behind] Missed! Did you forget, I'm a heartless wretch!

Davy Jones: [seeing Will looking at Elizabeth] Ah, love; a dreadful bond, and yet, so easily severed. Tell me, William Turner: do you fear death?

    Jack Sparrow: Do you?

Davy Jones: [Turns to see Jack holding the heart]

Jack Sparrow: Heady tonic, holding life and death in the palm of one's hand.

Davy Jones: [sneering] You've a cruel mind, Jack Sparrow.

Jack Sparrow: Cruel is a matter of perspective.

  • Will Turner: I need the Pearl to free my father. That's the only reason I came on this voyage.

Elizabeth Swann: You never told me any of this!

Will Turner: [pointedly] It was my burden to bear...

  • Elizabeth Swann: [of the Pirate Lords and their crews fighting each other] This is madness.

    Jack Sparrow: This is politics.

  • Lord Cutler Beckett: [during parlay] Advise your brethren. You can fight, and all of you will die... or you can not fight, in which case only most of you will die.

Elizabeth Swann: You murdered my father.

Lord Cutler Beckett: He chose his own fate.

Elizabeth Swann: And you have chosen yours. We will fight. And you will die.

  • Jack SparrowWill TurnerElizabeth SwannBarbossaGibbs: FIRE!

  • [in the Dutchman's brig, Elizabeth searches for Will's father]

'Bootstrap' Bill Turner: [embedded in the wall of the Dutchman] You know my name...

Elizabeth Swann: Yes. I know your son...

'Bootstrap' Bill Turner: My son... William!

[He tears himself out of the wall, to Elizabeth's fright]

'Bootstrap' Bill Turner: [laughing with joy] He's alive! Will's alive! He survived the Kraken, me boy, and he's sent you to tell me he's coming to save me! God's wounds, he's on his way!

Elizabeth Swann: Yes, Will is alive. And he wants to help you.

    [Bootstrap's smile fades]

'Bootstrap' Bill Turner: He can't help me. He won't come.

    [points a finger at Elizabeth]

'Bootstrap' Bill Turner: I know you. He spoke of you. He won't save me, he can't come because of you!

    Elizabeth Swann: Because of ME?

'Bootstrap' Bill Turner: You're Elizabeth. He who stabs the heart of the Captain must take over as Captain. Dutchman must always have a captain. And if he saves me, he loses you. He won't pick me - I wouldn't pick me! Tell him not to come. Tell him to stay away. Tell him it's too late. I'm part of the ship... part of the ship, part of the crew...

    [climbs back into the ship]

    Elizabeth Swann: Bootstrap...

'Bootstrap' Bill Turner: [his memory apparently wiped] You know my name... my son, he's coming to save me. You wait and see...

  • Will Turner: Barbossa, a heading!

Barbossa: Aye... we're good and lost now.

    Elizabeth Swann: Lost?

Barbossa: For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was.

    Ragetti: We're gaining speed.

    Barbossa: Aye!

Will Turner: To starboard stations! All hands to stations!

Barbossa: Nay, belay that. Let her run straight and true!

    Ragetti: [staring] Blimey.

[the rest of the crew follow his gaze, and see that they are headed towards a massive waterfall]

Elizabeth Swann: [to Barbossa] You've doomed us all!

Barbossa: Now don't be so unkind. You may not survive to pass this way again, and these be the last friendly words you'll hear.

  • Elizabeth Swann: I propose an exchange. Will leaves with us. And you can take Jack.

    Will Turner: Done.

    Jack Sparrow: Undone.

    Lord Cutler Beckett: Done.

Barbossa: [to Elizabeth] Jack's one of the nine pirate lords. You have no right!

    Elizabeth Swann: [with defiance] King!

  • Governor Swann: Elizabeth! Are you dead?

Elizabeth Swann: [shakes her head, whispers] No, no.

Governor Swann: I think I am.

  • Elizabeth Swann: Will, I've been aboard the Dutchman. I understand the burden you bear, but I fear that cause is lost.

Will Turner: No cause is lost if there is but one fool left to fight for it.

  • Will Turner: You left Jack to the kraken.

Elizabeth Swann: He's rescued now, it's done with.

    [pause]

Elizabeth Swann: Will, I had no choice.

Will Turner: You chose not to tell me.

Elizabeth Swann: I couldn't. It wasn't your burden to bear.

Will Turner: But I did bear it, didn't I? I just didn't know what it was. I thought...

Elizabeth Swann: You thought I loved him.

[Elizabeth tries to push past Will]

Will Turner: [Will blocks her exit and pushes her back against the pillar of the cabin] If you make your choices alone... how can I trust you?

    Elizabeth Swann: [pause] You can't.

  • Elizabeth Swann: It's too late to earn my forgiveness.

  • [Elizabeth sees her father in a boat that headed towards the land of the dead and is trying to get off the ship to him]

Tia Dalma: She must not leave the ship!

[she and most of the crew members rush towards her to stop her]

    Elizabeth Swann: Father!

Governor Swann: I'll give your love to your mother, shall I?

    Elizabeth Swann: Father!

[Will grabs her and holds onto her while she cries]

Will Turner: [to Tia] Is there a way?

Tia Dalma: [shakes her head] Him at peace.

  • Jack Sparrow: I'm taking my ship and going the other way...

Elizabeth Swann: The Brethren Court is a council of pirates, and you're a pirate.

Will Turner: Win or not, Jack, you're not running away!

[Swann and Turner point their guns at Sparrow]

  • Elizabeth Swann: Done.

    Will Turner: What? NOT DONE!

Elizabeth Swann: You got us into this mess - if this is what it takes to get us out of it, then done!

  • Barbossa: I trust you to know your place in front of Captain Sao Feng.

Elizabeth Swann: Is he that terrifying?

Barbossa: He's a lot like meself, but absent me merciful nature and sense of fair play.

  • Elizabeth Swann: [Norrington is helping Elizabeth to escape] What are you doing?

    Norrington: Choosing a side.

  • Elizabeth Swann: Sao Feng is dead. He fell to the Flying Dutchman.

    Mistress Ching: The plagued ship?

Jack Sparrow: He made you captain? They're giving the bloody title away now.

  • Elizabeth Swann: Oh, will you ever forgive me?

    Jack Sparrow: No.

  • Barbossa: I find meself in need of a ship; and a crew.

Captain Sao Feng: [pretending to think] Ah... you know, it is a strange coincidence...

Elizabeth Swann: Because you happen to have a ship and a crew you don't need?

  • Elizabeth Swann: [after she sees her father in a boat sailing by the Black Pearl in Davy Jones's Locker] That's my father, we've made it back! Father! Father! Look here!

Jack Sparrow: [solemnly] Elizabeth, we're not back.

    [Elizabeth's smile starts to fade]

  • Captain Sao Feng: All men are drawn to the sea, perilous though it may be.

Elizabeth Swann: And some men offer desire as justification for their crimes.

Captain Sao Feng: I offer simply my desire.

    Elizabeth Swann: And in return?

Captain Sao Feng: I would have your gifts. Should you choose to give them.

Elizabeth Swann: Oh... and if I should choose not?

Captain Sao Feng: Then I will take your fury.

  • Elizabeth Swann: Pretty speech from a captor, but words whispered through prison bars lose their charm.

  • Tai Huang: A dangerous song to be singing for anyone ignorant of its meaning. Particularly a woman... particularly a woman alone...

Captain Barbossa: What makes you think she's alone?

    [enter Barbossa down the stairs]

    Tai Huang: You protect her?

Elizabeth Swann: [puts a knife to Tai Huang's throat] And what makes you think I need protecting?

Captain Barbossa: [to Tai Huang] Your master's expecting us, and an unexpected death'd cast a slight pall on our meeting.

[Elizabeth takes the hint and lets go of Tai Huang]

  • Elizabeth Swann: [the Pearl is heading towards the maelstrom] Captain Barbossa! We need you at the helm!

Barbossa: [turns to her] Aye, that be true!

  • Elizabeth Swann: We've come to rescue you.

Jack Sparrow: Have you, now? It's very kind of you. But it would seem that as I possess a ship, and you don't... you're the ones in need of rescuing, and I'm not sure that I'm in the mood.

  • Tai Huang: What did he say?

Elizabeth Swann: He made me Captain...

    Tai Huang: [is disgusted, leaves]

Tai Huang: [later, they are captured by Mercer's men]

    [to Elizabeth]

Tai Huang: You are NOT my Captain!

[Davy Jones boards the ship and surveys the crew; Tai Huang is visibly terrified]

Davy Jones: Who among you do you name as Captain?

Tai Huang: [pointing at Elizabeth] Captain, her!

  • Elizabeth Swann: There will come a time when you have a chance to do the right thing.

Jack Sparrow: I love those moments. I like to wave at them as they pass by.

  • Jack Sparrow: [with his back to Elizabeth, thinking that she is a man] Come to join my crew, lad? Welcome aboard!

Elizabeth Swann: I'm here to find the man I love.

Jack Sparrow: [startled] I'm deeply flattered, son, but my first and only love is the sea.

Elizabeth Swann: Meaning William Turner, Captain Sparrow.

    Jack Sparrow: [turning around] Elizabeth!

    [to Gibbs]

    Jack Sparrow: Hide the rum.

  • Elizabeth Swann: [as Will, Jack, and Norrington fight] Stop it! Will!

    Will Turner: Guard the chest!

Elizabeth Swann: [indignantly] No! This is barbaric! This is no way for grown men to settle... oh, fine! Let's just haul out our swords and start banging away at each other! That will solve everything! I've had it! I've had it with wobbly-legged, rum-soaked pirates!

    [starts throwing rocks at them]

Elizabeth Swann: Enough! This is madness!

    [faking]

Elizabeth Swann: Oh! Oh, the heat!

[pretends to faint, then opens one eye to see that none of them have noticed]

  • Lord Cutler Beckett: No doubt you've discovered that loyalty is no longer the currency of the realm, as your father believes.

    Elizabeth Swann: Then what is?

Lord Cutler Beckett: I'm afraid currency is the currency of the realm.

Elizabeth Swann: I expect, then, that we can come to some sort of understanding. I'm here to negotiate.

    Lord Cutler Beckett: I'm listening.

    [Elizabeth pulls out a gun]

Lord Cutler Beckett: I'm listening intently.

  • Tia Dalma: The Pearl's gone, along with its captain.

Gibbs: And already the world seems a little less bright. He fooled us all, right to the end. But I guess that honest streak finally won out. To Jack Sparrow.

Ragetti: Never another like Captain Jack.

Pintel: He was a gentleman of fortune, he was.

Elizabeth Swann: He was a good man.

Will Turner: If there was anything could be done to bring him back...

Tia Dalma: Would you do it? What would any of you do? Would you sail to the ends of the earth and back to fetch back witty Jack, and him precious Pearl?

    GibbsRagettiPintel: Aye!

    Elizabeth Swann: Yes.

Tia Dalma: All right. But if you will brave the weird and haunted shores at world's end, then you will need a captain who knows those waters.

Barbossa: [enters] So tell me, what's become of my ship?

  • Elizabeth Swann: We're not getting out of this.

Norrington: Not with the chest. Into the boat.

    [takes chest]

    Elizabeth Swann: You're mad.

    Norrington: Don't wait for me.

[runs away from the longboat with the chest]

Jack Sparrow: Uh, I say we respect his final wish.

  • Elizabeth Swann: Thank you, Jack.

Jack Sparrow: We're not free yet, love.

Elizabeth Swann: You came back. I always knew you were a good man.

[kisses him to distract him, then handcuffs him to the mast]

Elizabeth Swann: It's after you, not the ship. It's not us. This is the only way, don't you see?

    [unconvincingly]

    Elizabeth Swann: I'm not sorry.

    Jack Sparrow: [almost understandingly] Pirate.

  • Elizabeth Swann: It's real!

Norrington: You actually were telling the truth.

Jack Sparrow: I do that quite a lot. Yet people are always surprised.

    Will Turner: With good reason.

  • Norrington: Come on, then! Who wants some? Form an orderly line, I'll have you all one by one. Come on, who's first?

Elizabeth Swann: [Grabs bottle from Norrington's hand and smashes it over his head] I just wanted the pleasure of doing that myself!

  • Jack Sparrow: We are very much alike, you and I, I and you... us.

Elizabeth Swann: Oh. Except for a sense of honor and decency and a moral center. And personal hygiene.

Jack Sparrow: [sniffs his armpit and looks back] Trifles.

  • Elizabeth Swann: Jack, the letters, give them back.

    Jack Sparrow: No. Persuade me.

Elizabeth Swann: You do know Will taught me how to handle a sword.

Jack Sparrow: As I said, persuade me.

  • Lord Cutler Beckett: Perhaps you remember a certain pirate named Jack Sparrow.

    Will TurnerElizabeth Swann: *Captain!*

    Elizabeth Swann: *Captain* Jack Sparrow.

  • Lord Cutler Beckett: I care not for cursed Aztec gold. My desires are not so provincial. There's more than one chest of value in these waters. So perhaps you may wish to enhance your offer.

Elizabeth Swann: [cocks her gun] Consider in your calculations that you robbed me of my wedding night.

  • Will Turner: And then I intend to return here, to marry you.

    Elizabeth Swann: Properly?

Will Turner: Eagerly, if you'll still have me.

Elizabeth Swann: If it weren't for these bars, I'd have you already.

[Governor Swann trips up in the background, breaking a candlestick off the wall in the process]

Elizabeth Swann: I'll wait for you.

Will Turner: Keep a weather eye on the horizon.

  • Governor Weatherby Swann: I've arranged passage to England. The captain is a friend of mine.

Elizabeth Swann: No! Will's got to find Jack!

Governor Weatherby Swann: We cannot count on William Turner.

Elizabeth Swann: He's a better man then you give him credit for.

Governor Weatherby Swann: This is no time for innocence! Beckett has offered one pardon only and that is promised to Jack Sparrow. Even if Will succeeds. Do not ask me to endure the sight of my daughter walking to the gallows. Perhaps I can ensure a fair trail for Will if he returns.

Elizabeth Swann: A fair trial ends in a hanging.

Governor Weatherby Swann: Then there is nothing left for you here.

  • Elizabeth Swann: Why doesn't your compass work?

Jack Sparrow: ...My compass works fine.

  • Norrington: There was a time when I would have given anything for you to look like that while thinking about me.

Elizabeth Swann: I don't know what you mean.

    Norrington: I think you do.

Elizabeth Swann: Oh, don't be absurd, I trust him, that's all.

  • Elizabeth Swann: Oh fine! Let's just haul out our swords and start banging away at each other! That will solve everything!

  • [first lines]

Elizabeth Swann: Will! Why is this happening?

Will Turner: I don't know. You look beautiful.

Elizabeth Swann: I think it's bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding.

  • Elizabeth Swann: James Norrington, what has the world done to you?

  • Elizabeth Swann: I've had it! I've had it with wobbly-legged, rum-soaked PIRATES!

  • Elizabeth Swann: You'll have the chance to do something... something courageous. And when you do, you'll discover something. That you're a good man.

  • Will Turner: Lord Beckett, in the category of questions not answered...

Elizabeth Swann: We are under the jurisdiction of the King's Governor of Port Royal, and you *will* tell us what we are charged with!

  • [seeing Jack rowing away from the Pearl]

    Elizabeth Swann: Oh, you coward.
