different between pederast vs ephebophilia

pederast

English

Alternative forms

  • paederast (British)
  • pæderast (dated)

Etymology

Borrowed from French pédéraste, from Ancient Greek ??????????? (paiderast?s, lover of boys), from ???? (paîs, boy) and ??????? (erast?s, lover).

Pronunciation

  • (US) IPA(key): /?p?d.?.?æst/, /?pi.d?.?æst/
  • enPR: p?d'?-r?st'

Noun

pederast (plural pederasts)

  1. A man who is engaged in an erotic relationship with an adolescent boy; a practitioner of pederasty.
    Synonym: (literary, archaic) Uranian

Usage notes

  • The term pederast has sometimes been incorrectly used to describe men sexually involved with prepubescent girls, or child-rapists who do not have any ongoing relationship with the child. For an adult fixated on only sexual involvement with prepubescent children, or for heterosexual child-eroticism, pedophile is used instead. However, it is important to note that pedophile and pedophilia refer only to the desire, not to the act, so pedophiles may not have been sexually involved with children. The female equivalent is a korephile.
