Cochise Quotes:

  • [as they all observe the subway station]

Ajax: Come on, what kind of chickenshit crap is this.

Cochise: Yeah, come on? We're here, what are we waiting for?

Fox: The train would help! Unless you wanna go up there and get jacked on an open platform.

Cochese: Bullshit man, there ain't nobody in the street.

Ajax: He's right! We're acting like faggots!

[a bus with bright headlights approaches]

    Swan: Just keep talking.

  • Cochise: When you're president of the biggest gang in the city, you don't have to take any shit.

    Ajax: Ah, fuck him!

  • Rembrandt: They think we shot Cyrus.

Vermin: What are you talking about? I don't get it.

Rembrandt: They think we shot Cyrus. Every gang in the city must be looking for us!

    Cochise: Holy shit!

Rembrandt: We're not gonna be able to make it back!

  • Vermin: [getting off the train at Union Square] Where is everybody?

Rembrandt: Looks like we're the first ones here. We're gonna hafta sit and wait... They'll show up.

Vermin: Ooooo, looks like something else showed up.

Cochise: Hey, hey, hey. Now lookit whatcha find here in the big city!

Rembrandt: Hey you guys, we ain't got time.

Vermin: Are ya kiddin'? Time's what we got plenty of!

Lizzie Leader: [the three walk over to the Lizzies] Hiya?

  • Cochise: [on subway, after escaping Turnbull ACs] Yeah, well we made it, and in a hour, it is C-I! The BIG Coney!

Ajax: You got it. Gimme that fist, buddy!

    [high fives Cochise]

    Cochise: Yeah! WHEEE!

Swan: When we get there, that's when we made it.

Cochise: Hey no sweat, War Chief.

  • Vermin: Where's the rest of them?

    Rembrandt: Where's everybody, else?

Snow: Cops got Ajax. We don't know about, Swan.

    Rembrandt: Oh, Jesus.

Cochise: Are you sure about Ajax?

    Snow: Real sure.

Vermin: Bet he went out swinging.

Snow: We better go look for Swan.

  • Cowboy: Okay, what are we gonna do now?

    Swan: We're going back.

Vermin: You mind tellin' me how? Fuckin' Coney Island must be 50 to 100 miles from here!

Swan: It's the only choice we got.

Cochise: Yeah, real simple. Except that every cop in this city is lookin' to bust our heads.

Swan: We got somethin' else to think about then the cops.

    Vermin: Yeah, what?

Snow: The truce. Is it still on?

Vermin: If it ain't, we're gonna have to bop our way back!

Cowboy: Shit, I wish we was packed.

  • Swan: Did you see him get busted?

Cochise: I seen him, then he wasn't there no more... I was hauling ass!

Swan: Why don't you look around and make sure we're okay.

    Rembrandt: This is a graveyard!

  • Consuelo de Cordova: Cochise, I'm sorry.

    Cochise: You know about Terua?

    Consuelo de Cordova: Yes.

Cochise: You must never be sorry. People who are no longer with us have gone to another life - one that is much richer than ours - where there is no sickness, pain, death or sorrow. We wish them well, and then never think about it again. I will start from the beginning, now, as if Terua never existed.

  • Consuelo de Cordova: Why does he turn his back on her? Doesn't he like her?

Cochise: This is the mother of the bride. Our custom forbids the husband to talk to his mother-in-law forever.

    Consuelo de Cordova: How strange.

Cochise: In some ways, the custom of the Apache is superior to that the white.

  • Cochise: These young ones are being taught discipline and endurance. They all start off running, not full speed, but trotting. Somewhere along the road, a brave with water in a little container gives it to the runner and says, "Take a mouthful, but do not swallow." They run four miles with the water in their mouths. At the end of the course, each is inspected to see if he still has the water. If one has swallowed, the trainers see to it that he does not do it a second time.

  • Major Tom Burke: Will Cochise, for the sake of a few raids on Mexican haciendas, force upon his people a war with the Americans? Or will he be for peace?

Cochise: I will be for peace, but my people may be for war.

Major Tom Burke: What will happen then?

Cochise: They will choose another chief... and make war.

  • Terua, Cochise's Wife: You do not want war with the white man.

    Cochise: No.

Terua, Cochise's Wife: Then do not do it. You are chief of the Apaches.

Cochise: Sometimes the will of the people is stronger than the will of their chief.

  • Cochise: Sometimes it is easier for the heart to do the talking.

Consuelo de Cordova: But it is not always easy for the heart to make itself understood.

  • Cochise: There is an ancient proverb among my people: Sometimes the only way for a man to find true happiness is to take drugs in a group.

  • Cochise: You know what I am thinking? Maybe someday you will kill me, or I will kill you. But we will not spit on each other.

  • Cochise: To talk of peace is not hard. To live it is very hard.

  • Cochise: White Painted Lady, I have old wounds.

Sonseeahray: Yes, but each scar is a mark of love for your people. The path of your people is stretched long behind you, and you are the head, and you are the heart, and you are the blood. Killer of Enemies was your father and you are his son. You will be well.

  • Cochise: You should always wipe your hands on your arm after eating, tall one. The grease is good for them.

Tom Jeffords: Ah, among the white men, we wash it off.

    Cochise: What a waste!

  • Cochise: I break the arrow. I will try the way of peace.

  • Cochise: Now I say this: the Americans keep cattle but they are not soft or weak. Why should not the Apache be able to learn new ways? It is not easy to change, but sometimes it is required. The Americans grow stronger while we grow weaker. If a big wind comes, a tree must bend... or be lifted out by the roots.

  • [to Tom Jeffords]

Cochise: As I bear the murder of my people, so you will bear the murder of your wife.

  • Geronimo: I trust none of it. Four days ago, we were given our territory on a piece of paper. Today, we cannot go into Mexico. The American general says 'No.' Already our territory is smaller. Where will we get corn, blankets, horses if not by taking them from the Mexican as we always have?

Cochise: The American government will give us cattle. We will raise them and trade them for our needs.

Geronimo: The answer of a woman.

  • Cochise: Take your women. Your children. Your horses. Your weapons. Leave our territory.

Geronimo: I leave you my name also. Now I am ashamed to be a Chiricahua. I will take the name Mexican enemies have given me. The whites will learn it. And you will learn it. From now on, I am Geronimo.

Cochise: If Geronimo or his followers come to this territory again, let them com with weapons.
