Avery Quotes:

  • Yuri: Did you enjoy your pickled beets, my dear?

    Avery: No...?

[Yuri glances over and sees Kenny with beet juice all around his mouth]

  • Avery: Thank you.

    Jon: You're welcome, lil' sis.

  • Maddie and Ashley: [paranoid, the girls scream when they run into Avery and Pete]

Avery: Knew I should have brushed my hair today.

    Pete: You'd still look scary.

  • Pete: Jake, What happened?

Jake: My widgie. Owww, I bent my widgie.

Avery: What are we going to do now Pete? Our boy can't surf in this condition.

  • AJ: Dad, I fucked up, and I know you don't have time to deal with this stuff right now...

    Avery: Not him, OK?

    AJ: What?

Avery: I want you to leave him alone, alright? OK?

    AJ: Why?

Avery: [Avery slams AJ against the wall] Wipe that fuckin' smirk of your face! You hear me? I want you to leave that fuckin' kid alone, alright? Look at me. Look at me! You wanted to come live with me right? You think this is easy for me? During this time, huh? I'm trying to make this work. I'm doing it for you. You can have anything you want, but I don't want you to touch that kid. You leave him alone. You under-fucking-stand me? Say yes!

    AJ: [crying] Yes.

Avery: Look at me, and say yes!

    AJ: Yes!

  • Avery: When I was a kid I used to look at my dad dressed in judge's robes and I used to think that my father was a superhero. And I don't think I was far off. He had that quality that judges have, where they have tremendous compassion, but they're also ferocious at the same time. He wasn't afraid of making enemies. I think that's probably why he had so many friends.

  • Avery: [Avery just received his medal and is giving a speech] When I was in law school, we used to always talk about justice. We'd have discussions about justice. But that's just what they were, discussions . I joined the police force because I wanted to work alongside the brave men and women who know that some problems can't be solved by talking. And no one wants to be in the situation that I found myself in a couple of weeks ago. I certainly wished it turned out differently. I'm not gonna lie, sometimes I have a wish that sometimes it wasn't me who was called upon that house that day. But that's the job. And I can't think of another line of work I'd rather be in. Thank you.

  • Avery: [Avery puts the money the cops stole from Romina's house on Chief Weirzbowski's table] I should have brought this to you sooner, I apologize. This is recovered from a house during a search...

Chief Weirzbowski: [Chief puts his hand up] No no no no. Wait a minute Cross.

Avery: That's just the small fraction of what's goin' on...

Chief Weirzbowski: Wait a minute Cross. Don't say another word.

    Avery: What do you mean?

Chief Weirzbowski: No no no, don't say another word.

[the chief leans forward in his chair and shakes his head]

Chief Weirzbowski: What'd you expect me to do with this?

    Avery: You're joking right?

    Chief Weirzbowski: This is shit!

    Avery: Chief!

Chief Weirzbowski: This aint' my problem, alright? This is your problem.

Avery: This is our problem of the fucking police department and I'm bringing it to your attention, because that's what I should fucking do!

Chief Weirzbowski: Oh yeah, is that right?

    Avery: Yeah!

Chief Weirzbowski: Is that what you should do? Rat out other fuckin' cops! This is un-fuckin-believable, alright?

[the Chief picks up the money with a tissue and throws it at Avery]

Chief Weirzbowski: Get this shit outta here!

  • Avery: [to Jessie] What are my chances of getting out of this?

Jessie: [to Alan] Lie to Him

    Alan: [to Avery] Pretty good!

  • Avery: [Referring to Vance's secret mission] ... and you understand the American government must not enter into this.

Philo Vance: I know. If I'm caught, I shall be a man without a country.

Avery: More than that, Vance. Possibly also a man without a head!

Philo Vance: Hmmm, not an amusing thought, your excellency.

  • Avery: Only a fool spits in the eye of god

  • Avery: Everything is everything.

  • Avery: Iodine... they're Iodine pills.

  • Nick: I just moved here from Pittsburgh.

Mandy: [flirting, large smile] That's cool!

Nick: Well... so what do you guys do for fun around here?

[Kaley smiles seductively at him and slightly raises an eyebrow and the camera angle cuts to them syncing their phones]

    Kaley: You got it?

    Nick: Yeah. Kaylie Mack.

Mandy: [still smiling] I'll give you my number, too!

[Kaley looks at Mandy with subdued fury and then back at Nick]

Nick: Well, cool. Well, I'll catch you guys later.

[Kaley smiles and nods and he begins leaving]

    Kaley: Nick! Avery's...

[seems hesitant or thinking while she speaks]

Kaley: having a party at her house this weekend

    [pauses]

Kaley: ... if you wanna come.

Nick: [grins; chuckles] Maybe. Text me the details.

[holds up his phone; Kaley gives him a pleased smile as Avery looks mad and then when Nick leaves Kaley turns excitedly to the girls]

Avery: Kaley, what are you doing? I am not having a party.

    Mandy: You have to!

[Kaley remembers Mandy's flirtation and her face turns serious]

Kaley: First of all, Mandy, I saw him first.

Mandy: [teeth clenched, smiling] No, you didn't.

    [speaks normally]

Mandy: He talked to all three of us at the same. time.

Avery: I gave him the tissues, so I get first dibs.

Avery: [frustrated, amused] Guys, it doesn't matter, anyway!

  • Mandy: [to Avery, smiling slyly] What about Trevor? It's the perfect chance to be alone with him.

Kaley: It won't be a rager. Just a few, intimate friends. Please?

    [scoffs in infatuation]

    Kaley: That guy is gorgeous!

[Avery looks from girl to girl]

Avery: Okay, fine! But, just a few friends and we're not calling it a party.

  • Det. Kathy Schumaker: [a somewhat shaky bird's eye view of the nighttime city is shown and a few seconds in, Schumaker begins speaking to a forward-facing Avery] So, Avery, you said that you saw two men take Kaley. Did you see anything else in the area? Did you see their faces?

Rihanne: [Mom comes in the hallway and into the room] Avery? Oh, Avery!

    Avery: Mom!

Rihanne: Avery! Oh, honey! Oh, my God!

[Rihanne sobs and embraces and kisses her as Schumaker sternly looks at them and the scene fades to a reward poster for Kaley]

  • Avery: It's been seven months and no one has seen or heard from Kaley. The police found nothing in John's stuff that would tell them who the men were that took her. They believe he found them on the Darknet but that's all they know. Suddenly, everyone was so interested in John; who he was, why he did what he did.

    [softly chuckles]

Avery: People become more interested in you after you do something horrible.

  • [last lines]

Avery: The media never reported how we really met John. They said he found us using social media. The reality is, we found him. We preyed on him. If you poke a lion with a stick, is it his fault for attacking you? I'm not saying any of us deserved what he did. Nothing gives you the right to hurt someone else even if they bully you. But that goes for Kaley, too. She had no right to hurt him either and if she hadn't, maybe she'd still be here.

[she pushes open the door and leaves]

  • Kaley: [walks into the room, looking out the window twice] What's goin' on?

Avery: [annoyed] What do you think? Neighbors complained.

Kaley: [looks back to the rest of the people in the house and back to Avery] Did Mandy come back?

Avery: No, I haven't seen her. Where were you, anyway?

Kaley: [exhales and shakes her head nervously] It has to be her playing a joke. That little bitch!

Avery: What are you talkin' about?

Kaley: That jerk-off Nick texted me and told me to go all the way out to the skate park to meet him and then didn't show. Mandy goes with me, then disappears. Texts me a few minutes later and says she went home.

Avery: Does that mean she walked? From the skate park, that's like, five miles.

Kaley: Or maybe Nick drove her home. Screw her! It's probably for the blog.

Avery: Mandy wouldn't do that. Nick is probably just an ass.

Kaley: She wanted him from the start.

Avery: I think you should just go look for her, okay. I got to get this place cleaned up and Trevor out of here.

    Kaley: Where's Trevor?

Avery: Passed out in my mom's bed.

Kaley: [sighs and collects herself] I'll go kick him out.

[turns and leaves as Avery continues picking up trash and the movie cuts to a night scene to segue into the environment of Mandy's kidnapping, where she is taken out of the trunk and dragged to a dilapidated building with a iron chain fence and she is restrained, his hands throughout going on her bare stomach and grasping her arm]
